Succumbing to popular demand

So I finally changed my profile photo even though it doesn’t appear to be much of an improvement to me. Now you folks are not allowed to bug me about changing it again until the fall. (Smile)

It’s a cold and rainy morning on the Washington Coast. I built a little fire in the wood stove this morning. My lettuce is loving the rain though. I’m going to post some photos from my yard and patio boxes sometime in the next week.

I was looking at Dr. Graham’s 80/10/10 book again yesterday because I was looking for ideas to help get Mary’s calories up on raw food. I didn’t spend much time looking at the menu section the first time I read he book because my focus is on green smoothies. But looking at it again I have to say the menu section with the corresponding nutritional breakdown is worth the price of the book. Very well done and what’s more, I think I will be utilizing some of his menu suggestions when the green smoothie experiment is over. The chapter on protein is also well done. I had issues with the rest of the book but I have to give credit where credit is due.

Not much else going on today. I made 4 quarts of green smoothies yesterday so the calories will look a little high and since I have leftovers to last through lunch today I’ll probably only make two quarts today.

So until tomorrow, I’ll leave you with the usual.

Yesterday’s 4 quart Green Smoothie Recipe:

258 grams Earthbound Farms organic romaine lettuce
128 grams Earthbound Farms organic spinach
349 grams frozen mango
245 grams organic banana
453 grams frozen cherries
122 grams avocado
130 grams onion
10 grams flax seeds
48 oz filtered tap water

This made three quarts of sweet green smoothies with lettuce, spinach, mango, banana, & cherries and one quart of savory green smoothie with lettuce, avocado, onion, & flax.

I had an additional 48+ ounces of water and 3 Rolaids. No other food, beverages, supplements, or medications.

Hi Valerie,
I was just wondering how you came to decide on your goal weight? The reason I am wondering is that I am almost as tall as you (about 5'10 and 1/2")and I feel that I would be too skinny at 140. I have some weight to lose too - I want to lose about 60 pounds and get down to about 160. I am big boned though, but those BMI charts seem a bit on the conservative side to me. Just curious. Always full of questions! :)
Rachel
PS congrats you look beautiful!

You may not see much of a change, but I can see the changes!

Congrats. You continue to metamorph and peel away the layers of the past, and grow into a happier and healthier self.

Keep rockin'!

Valerie, I can definitely notice a difference in your profile picture. Your face is thinner and you just look healthier.

Watching you walk in your video, I noticed a big change as well. You are walking faster and it looks alot easier than your first video. Congrats - keep up the great work!

Other people's eyes can often see sooner than our own. I see the 90 plus pounds in your face, for sure and int he still photos - but, I love the new video - where you are so confidently, and quickly walking down the path!! You were not booking like that in March! I am cheering for you each and every day, Valerie.

Valerie, I really admire your dedication! You inspire me!
I am new to green smoothies, I have only been doing them about a week, and am looking to use more veggies and less fruit in them. I was looking at your list for today and have a couple of questions.

Was this all one smoothie? or more than one?

I would like to try it for myself tomorrow, but don't have cherries, what would you use instead?

Thank you
Jenny P (pcajenny@yahoo.com)

Hi Paige, Heidi & Justin, Wendy, Shannon, LN, Jean,
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave me an encouraging comment.

Queengreen,
Mary also has concerns about my goal weight of 140. She thinks it might be too low. I honestly have no idea what it will feel like to be under 200 pounds since it’s been nearly 25 years since I was that low. I’d like to be slender. To not be burdened with any excess weight. But until I get into the neighborhood I may not be able to realistically visualize an appropriate weight for myself.

Jenny P,
The ingredients listed in my June 29th post made 4 quarts of smoothie. That’s 4 batches in the blender. Three of the batches were for sweet green smoothies and one batch was for a quart of savory green smoothie. It’s hard for me to recommend recipes since people’s tastes are so different. I personally enjoy savory green smoothies with lots of onion and garlic but I haven’t run into many other folks who like these. Most folks prefer sweet green smoothies. My best recommendation would be to make your favorite dairy free fruit smoothie and try adding a handful of leafy greens to see how you like it. Don’t expect to like everything you try. I made some smoothies yesterday that I didn’t really like. No harm done. ½ cup strawberries, 2 bananas, 2 cups of water, and one or two kale leaves is a popular recipe type on the raw food discussion forums.

Greenmamma,
Interesting you should mention the bike. We’re about to start a new month. Perhaps it’s time for some new commitments. We’ll see. (Smile)

You look really really great! I found your site shortly after reading Victoria's book a couple of months ago. I've been doing green smoothies once per day, but I've decided that I am going to do 90 days on green smoothies starting today. Your site is wonderful and inspiring. Keep up the good work. Not only do you look much more healthy, but you should feel awesome knowing that you've done wonders for your health!
