Kitchen Counter Trim

One of the reasons I’ve not done a Youtube video of my making green smoothies is because I’m embarrassed about my counter tops and don’t really want to show them off. My little purple cottage was built in 1979 as a vacation home by the prior owner and his sons. They did a laminate counter top which was poorly cut and when we bought the house the counter had a crack and no trim along the front. We are not very handy and we slapped a piece of floor molding up along the front of the counter primarily because I found it kind of sharp against my arms when I was doing dishes. We didn’t bother to miter the corners but we caulked it so water wouldn’t get between the molding and the counter and that’s pretty much how it’s been for the past 3 years. So now that we’re trying to spiffy up the place, we pulled it down because of the un-mitered corners & the poor caulking job where the caulking had actually come out in places. I’ve been looking for several weeks for a solution. Wood trim, aluminum trim, vinyl trim. With everyone buying solid countertops there’s not much info on the internet about how to trim out old laminate. We could try to get more laminate and cement it to the trim but we only need a strip about 2 ½ inches by 10 feet. The whole countertop needs to be replaced but we’re not planning to do that. So we’ve been going back and forth about what to do about it. The cheapest thing to cover the naked particle board. This morning it hit us. Let’s just paint the edge. If it looks bad we can still add trim. So we taped it off, sanded it and slapped some of our lovely pale buttery paint on the edge and it blends in very nicely with the counters and the walls. We’re going to do another coat this afternoon. I also bought some scratch repair stuff at the local boat store and I’m going to clean the counter crack really good and then seal it up so it’s less noticeable. I’m hoping this will be passable for the purposes of the sale.

Earlier this morning we painted the kitchen in the second coat of pale butter. This makes the 4th coat this week since we didn’t like the first color, a rosy tan. Last night we stained some new floor molding and then put a second coat of stain this morning. It only took 10 minutes to apply a coat of stain. So we’ll put up the new molding with properly mitered corners on the floor this afternoon, another coat of paint on the counter edge, and then hopefully I can move my fridge out of the living room and back into the kitchen tomorrow.

Not much else going on. Despite what the vet said we still think our little old dog is not doing well. He’s having a harder time navigating the steps onto the bed and he also missed the step getting out of the car at the beach this morning and took a hard fall. He’s sleeping most of the time and skipping a lot of meals but drinking more water then usual. He still runs a bit when he gets out on the beach and he still gets excited when he hears Mary’s car drive up, but we had the county inspector by this morning about the septic and Mary actually got to the door before he did. Sometimes when he barks at things now he doesn’t even bother to raise his head. It’s kind of comical and kind of sad at the same time. Anyway, with the septic, inspector guy told us it will likely only be the drain field that needs to be repaired. We won’t have to replace the tank, thank you very much. So he’s emailing me a list of designers and I’ll get someone out here to draw up a plan at $1000.00 and then have the county guy sign off so we can get to digging up the yard. Hopefully no trees will have to come out. Fun stuff.

It’s still raining here on the Washington coast. Yesterday I used store greens but I’m going to get out and pick some more greens from my patio boxes this afternoon when I make smoothies. Until tomorrow, I’ll leave you with the usual.

Hey Valerie,
It's ERICA from School of Rawk! I am soo proud of you! I want you to know I was banned from RawFoodTalk today and many left the site because it's such a police state. So, I want to invite you to inspire everyone at Raw Freedom Community, started by another peaceful dissenter of RFT and full of so many lively regulars. We'd love to see you there!

Hi Anastazia,
The mango, onion, and garlic thing tastes a lot like chutney or even a fruity salad dressing. I have not yet met anyone who has tried my smoothie recipe and then reported that they liked it. I’m strange…what can I say. Talk to you soon.

Hi Erica,
I’ve found discussion forums to be a lot like people. They have their good and bad qualities. Lucky for us we have a number to choose from. Not only am I a member of the Raw Freedom Community forum and the Raw Food Talk forum, I also have enjoyed spending time at Tommy’s Raw Food Lifestyle forum and Ginger’s Raw Path Support forum. As soon as somebody starts up a green smoothie forum I’ll joint that too. Thanks for stopping by. You can say anything you want here and I’ll never ban you.
