Hard Sad Day

Little Bit June 2007

Long story short, I had my little dog put to sleep this morning. He was old and had some serious health issues. It was expected but it’s still very hard and sad. I really can’t think of anything else at the moment, although I’m trying to stay busy. So I thought I'd just quickly post my weekly stats. I’ll write more next week.

Statistics:
Height: 5 foot, 11 inches. (180 centimeters)
Weight loss since March 1 2007: 116.2 pounds (52.7kilograms)
Weight today: 412.0 pounds (186.88 kilograms)
Weight Last Wednesday: 414.6 pounds (188.06 kilograms)
Weight March 5th 2007: 515.6 pounds (233.87 kilograms)
Weight March 1st 2007: 528.2 pounds. (239.59 kilograms)

Oh Valerie. I know I can tell you how sorry I am for your loss and sadness, but ... having been there, I also know it does little to help. Just know that I am thinking of you, and sending you warm thoughts. Some days I truly wish I had a magic wand.

Valerie, such a delight was this little guy - evident by your tender words to illustrate his being. I'm wishing you peace in knowing that he is at peace and pain free.

Hugs for heart healing,

Sorry to hear that your puppy dog is gone. I'm sure he loved you very much, too. Just remember, all dogs go to heaven.

The Lord bless you and keep you.

Valerie,

I am crying (tears are now streaming down to my chin)for both you and your little dog.

Sometimes, actually most times, I love animals more than people. They give UNCONDITIONAL love ALWAYS. My Husband and I have no children but we did have 3 very loved Fur Kids.

All 3 of our dogs died tragic deaths. So, yes, I DO KNOW what you are going through (I even went to therapy after losing the last 2 on the same night).

I am soooo sorry. I don't know what else to say - My babies have been gone for almost 3 years now and I still think of them daily.

Big Hugs to you and Mary - honestly - I DO know what you are going through.

Love,

Susan - I am here if you need me.

Thank you everyone for taking a moment to comment on my blog post yesterday. One of the things you realize when you lose a pet is that almost everyone you meet has grieved for the loss of a dearly loved pet. I think it speaks to the potential for love in the human heart. Take care.

Hi Valerie,

Tears here too. Little Bit was a beautiful little dog.

I've felt the loss of a beloved canine "child" and my heart goes out to you.

When we lost our dog our vet sent us a copy of the poem "Rainbow Bridge." Here's a link to it in case you haven't ever read it.

I hope it offers some measure of comfort.

Oh, Valerie! We're so sorry to learn of Little Bit's passing - he sounds like a real sweetheart and I know how difficult it is to let go of our dear canine friends. Diabetes, even successfully handled, is rougher on a dog than it is on many people, and we lost one of our dogs to it 6 years ago. Our little girl Liesel has had diabetes for 2 years and is now starting to lose her bearings as she ages - I think that's the hardest thing about loving dogs is that we usually outlive them. I'm glad that you had Little Bit to love as long as you did, though, and I'm sure he was glad, too! XOXO - Marilyn

Dear Valerie,

Love is stronger than death. The connection between the two of you remains... Try to think about the wonderful moments you spent together... Hang on, time will heal all wounds.

Much love from a stranger.

Dear Valerie:

I know how it is to miss a furface. You gave Lil Bit a great home and I'm sure he appreciated it and loved you as you loved him. It's only natural that we don't "bounce right back", and there's no use in saying he was "just a dog"! Dogs are wonderful souls, too! Please be patient with yourself and allow it to take as long as it takes to grieve.

Love,
Marilyn

I am so sorry for the loss of your little dog. My heart goes out to you.

We just lost our two dogs. We had to make the heart wrenching decision to put our Cocker Spaniel (12 years old) to sleep on July 24th (8 days before our 20th wedding anniversary) and our other dog, a Cocker Terrier (15 years old) just couldn't go on without him and gave up 16 days later (8 days after our anniversary). It has been very hard losing them both and they are sadly missed.
